2011 ALMA Conference

The American Equity Underwriters, Inc. hosted the 2011 ALMA Conference July 14 – 17 at the Montage Deer Valley in Park City, Utah.  The ALMA Conference, for those who might not know, is an annual event organized for brokers, ALMA members, and guests.  It consists of informative industry sessions offering expert presentations and commentary on issues important to the maritime industry, along with social activities, free time and dinners providing fun, networking and reunions with friends.  With just over 30 first time attendees, there were a record number of attendees this year. The speakers at this year’s ALMA Conference included Joe Rella, President and COO of Austal USA in Mobile, who gave a very impressive success story from a member’s perspective.  Dr. Sean Snaith, Ph.D., Director for the Institute for Economic Competitiveness, University of Central Florida, presented a very timely (and funny) view of the economy.  Carl Halgren, former OSHA Area Director, currently AEU Loss Control Specialist, provided an OSHA forecast.  Kayla Tortorich, RN, Vice President of Healthcare Management for FARA Insurance Services, spoke on the Medical Secondary Payer (MSP) Act.

The AEU Safety Awards were presented by Mike Lapeyrouse, President and CEO of The American Equity Underwriters, Inc. and Jimmy Burgin, Senior Vice President and Director of Loss Control, AEU.  Congratulations to the winners:
